The Winthrop Estate is a registered Great Estate built in 1875 for Henri Braem, US Ambassador to Denmark and Partner in Cunard Steamship Lines, famous for the ultra-luxurious Queen Mary ship line among others. Braem sold the property to the Winthrop family, descendants of John Winthrop, the founding governor of Massachusetts, from which the property took its current name. The manor is now freshly renovated with modern touches thoughtful of its origins and includes diverse amenities. The 32 landscaped acres have expansive views of Lenox Mountain. Enjoy the library room, paneled with rare Purpleheart and its array of art and literature books, as well as a sitting room with fireplace and luscious conservatory. 100% carbon neutral. Gatherings up to 35 with a fee.
The home includes a dining room, professional kitchen, fire pit and expansive stone patio. We provide a long list of amenities, for kids big and small we offer a virtual reality gaming room, PS4 gaming setup, foosball table, board games and more. For outdoors you will find bocce, lawn croquet and badminton equipment, large Jenga and more.
The Berkshires is one of the country's top cultural centers and the Winthrop is steps away from many leading national institutions: Tanglewood (summer home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra), Shakespeare and Company, The Norman Rockwell Museum and Edith Wharton's The Mount. Clark Art, Jacobs Pillow, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (the third largest in the US), Kripalu (largest yoga center), Williams College (#1 Liberal Arts College in the US) are all nearby.
The Berkshires is also home to a variety of outdoor destinations: Bousquet, Butternut, Catamount (longest zip line in the USA) and Jiminy Peak.
We provide local coffee, popcorn, biscotti, teas, cocoa, graham crackers, chocolate, candy and more. A welcome basket of local goods and fresh cut flowers greet your party.
Manager's previous property was #1 on VRBO in the Berkshires, and was showcased on Netflix's "World's Most Amazing Vacation Rentals" series.
